Kerala Blasters signed many good foreign players this season and all other teams have an equally strong line up.Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, none of the clubs including Kerala Blasters FC could have a proper preseason.
Amid this global pandemic situation season kicked off on November 20th. The opening match was between Kerala Blasters and ATKMB. Both teams showcased excellent performances in the second half , unfortunately Blasters lost the match (1–0) despite dominating the game throughout the first half. Roy Krishna scored for ATKMB at 68 minutes .In the opening match ,Kerala played really well. Kibu’s thoughts on not finding the net despite enjoying majority of the possession throughout the game: “I think we have to play better in the last third. In defense and in the midfield we had the ball but in the final third we didn’t participate too much so we have to try and improve this aspect of the game.” In the second match with northeast United ,they put forth a brilliant game. And also Kerala Blasters exhibited a positive attitude throughout the game. But unfortunately we lost 3 points ending the match in a draw , disappointing the fans. The third match for Kerala Blasters was against Chennai FC. The first South Indian Derby of this season also ended in a draw. On the bright side the penalty shot by Jacob Sylvester towards the right bottom corner of the net was brilliantly saved by KBFC's Albino winning him the Hero of the Match award. The club confirmed that captain Sergio Cidoncha has sustained a high grade ligament tear on both sides of his right ankle, during the match against Chennaiyin FC.This will affect the midfield , but there are so many talented players on this position to make up for his absence.
As long as there are more games to play, it is not over yet and Kibu is not a person who plays for draws. He has promised to come back much more powerful and stronger for the next match with FC Goa.
