Feature story on one of the finest young prospects of Kerala Blasters FC, KPL winner, Surag Chhetri based on interview given to INU.
Surag Chhetri was brought to the Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters after his impressive stint for the Sikkim Santhosh trophy team in 2017. The youngster gearing up for his 4th season with the club.
The talented lad donning the number 10 jersey for the Kerala Blasters reserve side is technically gifted and played as a secondary striker earlier but presently he has taken the role of a attacking midfielder. He played a crucial role in the succession of the KPL winning team. In the near future could expect to see the talented young lad in the Kerala Blasters main eleven that will be representing the beautiful state of Kerala in the Indian Super League.
Surag was kicking the ball since his childhood days, his passion grew day by day and decided to make football his career.
"I just loved to play football since when i was a child, I was about 6 or 7 years old . Football is my passion and I want to make it my profession"
The 20 year told INU.
His academic journey began when he was at tender age of 12. He went to Namchi Sports Hostel, Sikkim, he had a trial over there and started playing professionally. Later in his career, he played in the Santhosh trophy representing Sikkim, after which he got call from the Blasters.
Surag had his remarkable achievement in Kerala Blasters history last year. Under Ranjith TA, the team was crowned as Kerala Premier League Champions which was the first 1st trophy in club's history.
This is what a gleeful Surag had to say.
"Yes, it was very emotional moments for all my teammates. Most of the guys cried after we won the KPL final and the fans we extremly supportive till the last minute of the game. The KPL trophy is the first silverware of the club.
Earlier, last year also we lost against Gokulam FC in the semis of the KPL and this time, we won against them. we truly went all out, we all gave our full 100 percent until the final whistle. We didn't have our talismanic striker shaiborlong kharpan, but still we managed to win"
A slightly emotional Surag told INU.
Speaking on his goal Surag expressed his desire to be part of the Kerala Blasters Senior team.
"I just want to play in the ISL for Kerala Blasters FC and win the trophy with them and then my next goal is to work hard and earn myself a position in the Indian National team. I was part of World Cup B team.
The lad from Sikkim has always upheld his passion for football even in tough times and succeeded in making his passion his career. Rather than looking up to European footballing icons as his role model, Surag has told INU he takes his inspiration from Indian Football Legend Baichung Bhutia.
